About us

From their first smile to their first step,

A child is on an amazing journey of growth.

Did you know that in the first five years, a child's brain forms more than 1 million new neural connections every second? And that 90% of brain growth happens during that time? Little ones are learning at an incredible pace, and parents play a crucial role in this journey.

A parent is their child’s first and most important teacher. Every hug, every conversation, every game is shaping the child's developing brain. At 5 Steps to Five, our mission is to support parents every step of the way.

5 Steps to Five is a Port Chester-based Spanish-language parenting program focused on early childhood brain development. In weekly parent-child group sessions, our teachers model effective steps to promote a baby’s cognitive, verbal, and social skills: nurture, talk, play, read, explore. Our free classes build awareness, confidence, and community, and empower parents to advocate for their child’s future success and well-being.

5 Steps to Five serves as a trusted resource to the Port Chester immigrant community, supporting parents in their efforts to give their child the best start to school and to life. Teachers tell us that kids coming out of our program enter preschool more curious, more engaged, and more prepared for learning and growing.

We emphasize reading out loud, and our monthly curated children’s book giveaways allow our families to build their own libraries. Special guest lecturers educate parents on issues as varied as nutrition, mental health, or community resources. We offer Zoom classes, park outings, special workshops, and a weekday group for expecting mothers. For many of our families, 5 Steps to Five has become a home away from home.

These young brains have no time to waste.

Please join us in this important work.
